Christmas Rhapsody is an attempt to give an overview of the entire Christmas story via music and narration. Though the music will stand on its own without narration, it is hoped that the provided narration will be used to give an added dimension to the overall presentation.
The story begins in Genesis 1:1 and uses selected scripture verses in narration form, along with appropriate music, to bring Christmas Rhapsody to a climactic ending at Christ’s birth.
The following synopsis of the story and music will help to give a general overview for the conductor.
- Creation – original music. Measures 1 to 15.
- Prophecy of Christ’s birth – “O Come, O Come, Immanuel” and “The First Noel”. Measures 16 to 67.
- Annunciation to the shepherds and wisemen – “Come All Ye Shepherds” and “We Three Kings.” Measures 68 to 129.
- Christ’s birth in the manger – “Away In The Manger.” Measures 130 to 167.
- Conclusion – Glory to God in the Highest – “Westminster Carol” (“Angels We Have Heard On High”
