PROGRAM NOTE
Daystar (Morning Star) is a term used in prophecy in reference to the coming messiah. This composition for symphonic winds and percussion is a set of variations, in three continuous movements, based on fragments of the ancient hymn “Ascalon”. The text most commonly associated with “Ascalon” is reminiscent of this prophecy, and inspires this work.
